IMPORTANT - PLEASE NOTE:

 

• All supplies and forms needed for sampling are available in the drop-off box.  Please take only the supplies you need.

• For safety reasons the laboratory doors are normally locked, even during business hours. Please only ring buzzer if supplies have been depleted.

• The drop-off box is checked by staff at 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 pm daily.  Bacteria samples have a hold time of 30 hours so be sure the sample will not be over 30 hours old when we collect samples from the drop-off box.

• Nitrite-Nitrate samples must be received by 2:00 pm on the day they are collected (Monday-Thursday only; no Friday-Sunday drop-offs).  These also have a 30-hour hold time and we need to ship them to a partner lab.  Please call the lab or ring the buzzer when dropping off nitrite-nitrate samples.

• PAYMENT MUST BE RECIEVED PRIOR TO ANALYSIS.  You may leave payment with sample when dropped off, or call the lab at 804-694-8285 to pay by credit card.

• Results will be sent via email, Fax or US Postal Service as indicated on your sampling form(s).

COLIFORM BACTERIA AND E. COLI TEST:

• Located in the box are kits in 1 gallon zip-lock bags containing:

  • Collection instructions and price sheet

  • Sample collection form and (when completed by lab) Certificate of Analysis

  • A clear plastic bottle containing a white solid (sodium thiosulfate). This is a sterile bottle-do not substitue with another bottle.

• Place plastic bag with completed form, sample and payment inside the cooler located in the drop-off box.

• If paying by credit card, immediately call the lab with payment information.  Samples without prepayment will not be processed.​

LEAD NITRATE NITRITE:

• NOTE: Bottles in the drop-off box are intended for private well sampling only and are not suitable for public water supplies (PWS) because they do not already contain acid preservative. (Private well samples are preserved after receipt in the lab. If you need bottles for a public water supply please contact the lab at 804-694-8285 or ring buzzer)

• Located in drop-off box are:

  • Lead (1000 ml opaque plastic) and nitrite/nitrate bottles (250 ml opaque plastic bottles)

  • Chain-of -custody/sample collection form

  • Collection instructions and price sheet

• Place plastic bag with completed form, sample and payment inside the cooler located in the drop-off box.  For nitrite/nitrate samples, drop off no later than 2:00 p.m. the day of collection and alert the lab that the sample has been submitted.

• If paying by credit card, immediately call the lab with payment information.  Samples without prepayment will not be processed.

NUISANCE CONTAMINANTS/WATER QUALITY MEASUREMENTS:

• Located in drop-off box are:

  • 250 ml opaque plastic bottles (or you can use your own bottle with lid)

  • Form entitled "Water Quality Analyses (Private Wells Only)"

  • Collection instructions and price sheet

• Place plastic bag with completed form, sample and payment inside the cooler located in the drop-off box.

• If paying by credit card, immediately call the lab with payment information.  Samples without prepayment will not be processed.
